Position Overview

You will be the engineering anchor of the founding team for a next-generation, AI-native Practice Management System. You'll make foundational architecture decisions that power thousands of dental practices across the US. You'll set engineering standards and directly build the core platform while mentoring engineers and partnering with product teams. This is a deeply hands-on role where you'll write production code daily while providing technical direction for the greenfield PMS platform.

Role & Responsibilities

• You own end-to-end technical architecture of the PMS platform, designing for scalability and reliability from day one
• You lead backend development using Django, building production-grade RESTful APIs and microservices for PMS workflows
• You design and manage PostgreSQL data layer including schema design, query optimization, and migration management via SQLAlchemy/Alembic
• You architect and implement HIPAA-compliant data handling, security controls, and audit logging across the platform
• You build integrations with US dental ecosystem including insurance clearinghouses, HL7/FHIR interfaces, and payment processors
• You define CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and deployment workflows for high-velocity releases
• You mentor senior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and establishing engineering culture standards

Must Have Criteria

• 8-12 years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in Tech Lead or Staff Engineer role
• Deep expertise in Django framework for building production web backends and REST APIs
• Strong command of PostgreSQL including schema design, indexing, and query tuning with SQLAlchemy/Alembic
• Hands-on experience with Redis caching strategies and Nginx reverse proxying/load balancing
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipeline design, Git workflows, and automated testing (unit, integration, e2e)
• Experience integrating with third-party APIs including payment gateways or external data platforms
• Practitioner of AI-assisted development tools and LLM-powered coding assistants

Nice to Have

• Experience in B2B SaaS companies building enterprise software solutions
• Cloud-native delivery experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools
• Exposure to AI/ML model integration in production systems and building AI-assisted features
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale
• Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, EDI 837/835) and HIPAA compliance
